I Thought I'd Feel Like a Grown Up by Now

Reasons I Should Feel Like a Grown Up:
Reason 1:
I got my 10 year reunion invitation in the mail today.
On one side, it breaks my heart that I won't make it (although Luke encouraging me to go does make it enticing).  On the other, GOOD GRIEF I'VE BEEN OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL 10 YEARS!!!!

Reason 2:
We're house hunting.
Yay!  We're finally house hunting!  Ugh, we're house hunting. Let's be honest.  It's not all it's cracked up to be.  It'll be GREAT to finally move out of the apartment we're currently in, but my goodness we've only been at it a week and I'm all ready tired of it!  The ups and downs of finding a house and then finding out that someone else has already put an offer on the house is just stressful.  In the end, I'm sure it will be worth it though.  I'm just trying to be thankful that we're finding a house here, in Colorado, instead of having to move away from our wonderful friends.

Reason 3:
I'm a mom!
That should make anyone feel older right?  I'm maturing even as I write about it...can you tell?  I told Luke last night that although I remember my life without Eli, I just can't believe I didn't notice something was missing without him! (Great analogy for a sermon, eh?)  He's amazing and I can't wait to have numbers 2 and 3 (and maybe 4!) here too.

I still feel too young to be at this point!  Is there ever a time that you can say, "OK, now I feel like an adult." Or do I just need to accept it & move on?  I know...it's the latter.  I'm working on it OK?  I'm proud to say that I still don't watch the evening news and I only watch the political shows because a certain someone makes me.  At least one of us is embracing his age.

In the words of Grey
“I've heard that it's possible to grow up - I've just never met anyone who's actually done it. Without parents to defy, we break the rules we make for ourselves. We throw tantrums when things don't go our way, we whisper secrets with our best friends in the dark, we look for comfort where we can find it, and we hope - against all logic, against all experience. Like children, we never give up hope...”

Helicopter Smiles

There's the smile when:
He first said I love you
When you both said "I Do"
When she gets the job
After a long night of great conversation
When his flight lands
When she says "I'm pregnant"
You dance in the rain
Your favorite movie is on TV
You get a snow day
That great thing is on sale
You dontate to the Good Will
You get a great gift
He says the perfect word of encouragement
That dreaded thing gets done
You give a great gift
She says, "It's perfect!"
They say, "Don't worry, I'll pay"
That friend comes to town

And then, there's the Helicopter Smile

Not Gettin' It

I'm just not getting it.  I think I need some more lessons from Dunston.  I still am not hearing more than "Eh" & "Neh".  Unless he's only hungry & needs to burp all the time, I'm just not picking up on his signals.  If Eli would just say, "Hey, mom! I have some junk in my trunk." Then I wouldn't have a problem.  I guess I have to wait a little while for that though.
Check out this theory for yourself & let me know how it went for you!  (See link in prior post for more info)

Either way...it's amazing what a little rocking will do.

Learning the Language Day 1

I've been listening, but I'm not sure I'm going to get this baby language.  I think I can hear when Eli says "Eh" & "Neh" but that's about it.  He's sleeping on daddy right now though so we must be doing something right.
The study did say that if the parents don't pick up on the cues that baby is giving, they will eventually stop giving them.  How awful!  No wonder we can't remember being infants! It's got to be so frustrating to not be understood.  So, for my son's sanity I'm going to keep at it.  Eli, I'm trying to understand you!  Just give me some time!
I do think it's great that someone did finally listen to the different types of cries.  Of course, we adults are so focused on making our children give us the cues we taught them, that we don't listen to the language they're already using.  So, good on ya, Dunston.  I'm going to try my best to learn the baby language.

Baby Language

It's time to start a new experiment!  Today, my cousin told me about a lady (Dunston) who has learned to understand baby talk.  Yep, that's right. Priscilla Dunston is the person who has been studying this language.
Neh - hungry
Owh - sleepy
Eh - needs to burp
Heh - discomfort
Eair - hot/cold/has gas

Very interesting...so I'm going to try it.  Let's see what happens.
